Call For Games

CASEM, on behalf of FISU, is looking for Chief Medical Officer and Health Care Team applicants for the next TWO University Games – Winter (Slovenia, Jan 30th to February 9th 2013) and Summer (Kazan, Russia, July 6th to 17th 2013). 

FISU WINTER GAMES

Where: The 26th Winter Universiade will take place in the city of Maribor, Slovenia from January 30 – February 9, 2013. The mission staff should be prepared to arrive approximately 5 days earlier and leave 2 days after the Universiade, and also participate in all pre-event planning meetings. 

What:

The Universiade is a multi-sport event that takes place every two years in various cities all over the world. It is one of the largest sporting events worldwide, second only in size to the Olympic Games. The 26th Universiade in Maribor will feature over 70 sporting events, encompassed in the following 11 sports:

Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Ice Hockey, Curling, Cross Country Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combined, Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Snowboarding, and Freestyle Skiing.

Team Canada Medical Team Requirements:

We anticipate a team size of approximately 150 members (110 athletes and 40 support staff)

Therapists (2)*

*will include Physiotherapists and Athletic therapists, and priority will be given to those who can also provide massage.

Funding:

The positions are voluntary; there is no salary or honorarium.  All expenses for participation as a member of the Mission will be covered by the CIS. Administrative support for the entire Mission is provided by CIS International Programs Services.

FISU SUMMER GAMES

Where:

Kazan, Russia, an 11-day multi-sport event is scheduled to take place from July 6-17, 2013.

The mission staff should be prepared to arrive approximately 5-8 days earlier and leave 1-2 days after the Universiade, and also participate in all pre-event planning meetings. 

Team Canada Medical Team Requirements:

We anticipate a team size of approximately 400 members (280 athletes and 120 support staff).

                  Doctors (3-5)

                  Massage Therapists (1-2)

                  Therapists (7-9)

Funding:

The positions are voluntary; there is no salary or honorarium.  All expenses for participation as a member of the Mission will be covered by the CIS. Administrative support for the entire Mission is provided by CIS International Programs Services.

Additional Information:

Preference for selection will be given to personnel associated with Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) member institutions, with special attention to gender and bilingual language requirements.  The ability to speak Slovenian will be considered an asset. All candidates shall be subject to a screening process, including a criminal reference and driving offence check, prior to the confirmation of their selection.
