Course Learning Objectives

  • Interpret at least some portion of x-ray, MRI, and/or CT scan hip imaging and diagnostic techniques.
  • Identify strategies that enable the development of a clinical practie that involves the management of hip conditions.
  • Identify the appropriate use of non-operative interventions and strategies from allied health professionals.
  • Describe how to formulate a management plan for hip disorders, which includes both operative and non-operative strategies with collaboration between surgeons and allied healthcare professionals (e.g. physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopaths).
  • Further knowledge in hip arthroscopy and other surgical procedures.
  • Gain knowledge in performing range of motion tests, other diagnostic techniques to determine hip conditions and assess recovery post-surgery.

Course Chair

Dr. Ayeni is a Professor and Academic Division Head of Orthopaedic Surgery at McMaster University, Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Research Methodology, Evidence and Impact and Medical Director for the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Forge FC. Dr. Ayeni has been named a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Joint Preservation Surgery by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and a University Scholar at McMaster University. He has published over 400 academic publications in sports medicine and related research. Dr. Ayeni is the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and is the Research Committee Chair for the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy.
