Call for Interest: Associate Athletic Therapist/Physiotherapist
World Medical Football Championships (WMFC) 2026 — Costa Rica
Position: Associate Tournament Therapist (Working in conjunction with Head Physiotherapist)
Campaign Dates: December 11–20, 2026 (Tournament Costa Rica) | October 2–4, 2026 (Training Camp Toronto)
Application Deadline: June 30, 2026
The Opportunity
Team Canada Medical Football (TCMF) is seeking a motivated, adaptable Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT-C) or Registered Physiotherapist to join our medical staff for the 2026 World Medical Football Championships in Costa Rica. Working directly alongside our Head Physiotherapist, you will provide comprehensive medical coverage, injury management, and performance support for our national squads, including the Vogel Cup (Men’s Over 45) and the Carlitos Cup (Over 60 Mixed joint-nation team) and our other 2 teams (11 aside and 7 aside).
This role is an exceptional fit for an early-to-mid-career professional looking to gain elite international tournament experience. You will be managing the acute care, recovery, and preparation of high-performance master athletes—all of whom are practicing Canadian physicians. Exceptional performance during this campaign opens the door for future opportunities within the TCMF national program.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborative Care: Work in tandem with the Head Physiotherapist to deliver pre- and post-match treatment, preventative taping, bracing, and acute on-field emergency care.
- Tournament Load Management: Assist in designing and executing recovery protocols (hydration, mobility, and thermal contrast) tailored to high-temperature, high-humidity tournament environments.
- Tri-Nation Liaison: Support the joint-nation Carlitos Cup team, helping manage the physical health and integration of players from Canada, Costa Rica, and Colombia.
- Training Camp: Assist with baseline assessments, movement screening, and squad prep at the mandatory training camp in Toronto, ON (October 2–4, 2026).
Compensation & Logistics
- Fully Covered: Return flights to Costa Rica and tournament accommodation are fully included.
- Remuneration: Honorarium/compensation is competitive and scaled based on the applicant’s credentials, field experience, and qualifications.
Candidate Profiles & Requirements
- Credentials: Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT-C) or Registered Physiotherapist in good standing. Valid Sport First Responder or equivalent field-emergency certification is required.
- Experience: Experience in field-side sports coverage (soccer, tournament formats, or masters/veteran athletes is highly advantageous).
- Language Skills: English fluency is required. Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial but not essential (useful for collaborating with partner medical staffs and local tournament infrastructure).
- Availability: Full availability for the tournament dates (December 11–20, 2026) and the Toronto training camp (October 2–4, 2026).

Interested candidates must submit a formal application package containing:
